Lime trees line a quiet promenade, their trunks cut black against a washed grey sky. Anna Ostroumova-Lebedeva drew In the park with the hard, patient line she brought to St Petersburg gardens, every branch measured and repeated. Look closely and the technique reads as much as the scene: fine crosshatching builds shadow under the canopy, drypoint burr softens the edges of clipped lawns, and a fountain or stone balustrade anchors the middle distance in pale grey. The palette stays restrained, charcoal, silver, a breath of sepia, so the eye follows the rhythm of the trees instead. A study or hallway with plain white walls and natural light gives this drawing room to breathe, the way a print room or drawing cabinet would.
