Imperial Gladiolus

A single imperial gladiolus rises against a dark, unbroken ground, its spike crowded with trumpet blooms from lower bud to open flower. Octav Bancila keeps everything else out of the frame. The petals read in deep crimson shading to wine at the throat, with pale edges where light catches them. Brushwork follows the leaf blades, long strokes down their full length, and the stem carries a slight bend that keeps the whole arrangement from feeling stiff. Suits a study or a narrow hallway where one strong vertical image can hold the wall on its own.
