Ile de Bréhat

Pink granite slabs tilt into clear green water while two small sails cross the bay. Ile de Bréhat by Samuel Peploe sets the Breton shore down in bold, unhurried blocks of color. The Scottish Colourist palette runs hot against cool: coral and violet stone, sea in slabbed strokes of viridian and cobalt, sand washed with lilac shadow. Paint sits thickly, edges left raw, so rocks and tide feel built rather than sketched. A sunroom, stair landing, or study with pale walls gives the greens room to breathe; against limewash or plain linen, the shore reads cool and salted even in winter.
