Beneath a broad fruiting tree, figures rest in a green meadow while branches arch overhead like a vaulted ceiling. Idyll, The tree of Life distills that pause into one soft afternoon. Pellizza da Volpedo worked in fine strokes of unmixed color, emerald beside gold, so the canopy seems to shiver in moving light. Layered like threadwork, the surface keeps its glow in dim rooms. Warm ochre paths, rose garments and a pale sky give the scene its hush. A reading nook or quiet bedroom suits it, somewhere slow mornings let the eye wander through leafy shade toward that far strip of sky.
