Hunting

Riders gallop across a raw brown slope in Hunting, a Nicholas Roerich scene of pursuit set against enormous sky. Figures and beasts shrink beneath the vastness, dwarfed by land itself. Roerich works in flat, layered color: deep umber terrain, ochre highlights, a pale band of distance, and heavy cobalt peaks pressing down at the top edge. The tempera surface reads chalky and matte, edges hard, shadows cool. Horses stretch at full run, their riders hunched low, every stroke serving the sweep of motion. A hunting scene this kinetic suits a study or hallway where movement and mountain air can carry the wall.
