White rime coats every furrow of the fields outside Pontoise. Gustave Loiseau sets a winter morning down in small, deliberate strokes, the frost turning ploughed earth pale lilac and grey. Bare trees line the ridge, their branches etched against a milky sky. Loose broken brushwork gives the frozen ground its shimmer, cold blues settling into the hollows where ice lingers longest.
