Hisashi

Bamboo leaves sweep across the sheet in long, sure strokes, a hisashi rendered with the economy of a master calligrapher. Yamamoto Gempo built the composition from layered washes of ink and mineral green, each leaf turning on a visible brush pivot. Dark stalks anchor one corner while pale mist opens the distance. Paper grain shows through thin passages of pigment. A quiet corner of a study or tea room suits it.
