Himalayas. Varicoloured Snows

Ridges of Himalayan snow split into bands of color across this Nicholas Roerich composition. The title, Varicoloured Snows, names the effect directly: ice that refuses to stay white. Rose and mauve claim the nearest slopes, while higher altitudes shift toward violet, then cold blue where the air thins. The ridgelines run flat and simplified, silhouette against silhouette, and the snowfields read almost as mineral planes, tinted like polished stone under altitude light. Suited to a study or quiet hallway where mountain painting can hold a wall on its own.
