Rain falls in slow silver sheets across the high Himalayas. In Himalayas. Rain, Nicholas Roerich reduces the world to weather: peaks half erased by downpour, cloud pressing low, blue deepening where stone meets sky. Sweeping veils of tempera wash across the ridgelines, thin at the summits, denser near the valleys, so the mountains seem to dissolve upward into mist. Below, dark foothills hold their ground in umber and slate while a pale track of light breaks through the curtain of rain, the single warm note in a field of cobalt and grey. At home it suits a study or reading nook, where the hush of monsoon over the Himalayan ranges gives a quiet hour its own weather.
