Himalayas

Peaks rise one behind another, each ridge a colder shade of blue than the last, until the farthest summits dissolve into the sky itself. Nicholas Roerich gave the name Himalayas to this vision of the great range. Tempera-like pigment sits flat and luminous here. The snow holds a faint violet shadow along every slope, and the foreground rock stays dark against an immense field of pale light. Nothing interrupts the silence between summit and summit. The composition breathes upward, drawing the eye along ridge after ridge toward a horizon that never quite arrives. A study or reading room asks for exactly this kind of horizon, something wide enough to look into at the end of the day.
