Himalayas

Snowbound ridgelines sweep across the sheet in Nicholas Roerich Himalayas, a mountain vista reduced to its barest geometry. Cold light holds everything in suspension. Nothing moves but the eye. Broad washes of cobalt and violet-blue lay the shadows into the snowfields, while untouched pale ground does the work of glare on the upper slopes. The brushwork runs wet and swift, edges bleeding where one temperature of blue meets another, the farthest peaks barely more than a breath of pigment. Roerich treats altitude as color: the higher the ridge, the deeper the hue beneath the white. Suited to a study, a quiet hallway, or anywhere that rewards long looking.
