Himalayas

Peaks after peaks climb the paper-thin sky in this Himalayas composition by Nicholas Roerich, where summits crowd one another in a receding wall of high-altitude color. Cold cobalt and deep ultramarine wash over the nearer slopes, while the farthest crests pale toward lilac and milk-white snow. Broad, tempera-like strokes leave the ridgelines crisp, almost cut, against a sky of unbroken, glassy blue. Nothing else intrudes: no figures, no trees, only rock, ice, and thin air.
