Himalayas

Peaks of the Himalayas climb in graded bands of blue, each ridge paler than the one before until snow and sky merge at the top. Nicholas Roerich built the whole composition from that single receding color. Look at how the tempera surface sits: matte, chalky, almost mineral, so the white summits read as salt or bone rather than painted highlights. Below, a darker slope anchors the base, its foothills in slate and violet shadow. No figures, no buildings, no path. Just elevation and silence rendered in layered pigment. Suited to a study or reading nook where a window faces north, this quiet mountain vision rewards long, slow looking.
