Himalayas

A single snow-covered massif holds the whole picture, its ridgeline cut hard against an unbroken field of blue. This is the subject Roerich returned to again and again: the Himalayas, reduced to two colors and total silence. Look closely and the cold does all the work. The summit sits in thick white impasto, ridges of paint standing in for ridges of snow, while the sky deepens from slate to pure cobalt as the eye climbs. No figures, no temple, no path. Just rock, snow, and altitude made painterly. It belongs where quiet is wanted: a study wall, a reading nook, a hallway that needs one long exhale of mountain air.
