Himalayas

Deep blue ridges climb toward a pale, hard sky, the snowbound summits of the Himalayas rendered in dry tempera by Nicholas Roerich. Snow lies in thin white seams along every crest, and the shadowed slopes sink into indigo so deep the pigment reads chalky and matte. Distances compress. Nothing human interrupts the sweep, no tree line, no road, only alternating bands of cold color rising range behind range. A quiet study or a north-lit reading nook suits it; the cold air of altitude seems to follow, settling a glacial calm over the room.
