Himalayas

White summits stand along a ridge of pure ultramarine, cold and unhurried under a sky the same shade as the ice. This is the subject Roerich returned to across his Himalayas series, a mountain world reduced to its essentials. The tempera surface reads smooth and matte, pigment laid in broad unbroken planes. Snowfields carry faint warmer tints where the light turns, while the nearer slopes sink into violet shadow. No trees, no figures, no path. Only altitude, distance, and the thin air between ridge and sky. It belongs in a quiet study or a reading room, anywhere a glance upward lands on open horizon and cold mountain silence.
