Himalayas

A vast white crest breaks through cold air in Nicholas Roerich Himalayas, the snowline sharp against a sky of tempered blue. Nothing else competes with that slope. Tempera gives the snow its chalky density while shadow runs violet across the ravines below. The summit reads almost carved, each ridge edged in pale ice tones, the foreground left bare and quiet so the mountain carries the whole weight of the composition. Roerich painted these mountains as places of stillness and ascent, and that spirit holds here. It belongs above a writing desk, in a study, or wherever a room needs a long cold horizon.
