Himalayas

Peaks upon peaks recede into pale distance, each ridge a cooler shade than the last. Nicholas Roerich titled the scene simply Himalayas, and the title says all it needs to. Tempera gives the snow its chalky luminosity, laid over deep ultramarine shadows that pool in the valleys. The foreground rock reads almost ochre against slopes of cobalt and frost white. No figures, no trees. Only ridgeline after ridgeline, flattened into bands of color until mountain becomes pure geometry. Suited to a study or a quiet reading room, where the silence of high altitude can hold the whole wall.
