Himalayas

Snowbound summits fill the entire canvas, rendered in the deep ultramarine that Nicholas Roerich reserved for his Himalayas series. A pale ridge line cuts diagonally across cold air. Tempera gives the slopes a matte, chalky texture, each plane of rock and glacier set off against the next in bands of cobalt, violet, and bone white. No figures, no trees, only altitude and silence held in pigment. Suited to a quiet study or reading room where a window of mountain air belongs on the wall.
