Himalayas

Peaks of the Himalayas rise in cold procession across Nicholas Roerich's vision, snowfields flattened to near-white bands beneath a sky of deep, unbroken blue. The mountains do not recede; they stack, one behind another, as if the range were built for viewing. The palette holds to Roerich signature registers: cobalt and ultramarine pressed against glacier white, shadows laid in violet where the light bends over a ridge. Contours stay simplified and hard-edged, each summit outlined with the certainty of tempera on panel. Nothing softens. Distance reads through color alone, cooler and paler with every successive range. This is quiet high-altitude atmosphere suited to a study or reading room, where the eye wants somewhere far to go.
