Himalayas

Snow ridges recede in measured bands toward a high summit, painted in the deep cobalt that Nicholas Roerich reserved for the Himalayas. The mountain chain fills the frame edge to edge, unhurried and vast. The range is built from broad planes of color rather than detail. glacier white breaks into pale lilac where light touches the slopes, and the sky presses down as an unbroken field of ultramarine, darker at the top. No figures, no shelter, nothing human. Only the gradation of altitude, each ridge colder and more distant than the last, worked in tempera-like layers that keep their flatness instead of pretending depth. Suited to a study or a quiet reading room, where a viewer can sit with that silence and scale at length.
