Himalayas

Peaks unfold in receding planes of snow and shadow, ridge after ridge dissolving into distance. This Himalayas composition from Nicholas Roerich captures the great range at its stillest hour. Cold lapis and cobalt wash the slopes while unbroken white crests carry the only pure light. Thin, layered strokes of tempera-like color build the mountains without contour lines, so form emerges purely through tone. Air itself reads as pigment, the valleys breathing violet between the summits. Suited to a study or reading room where quiet, high-altitude color can hold one long wall on its own.
