Himalayas. Nearly Sandahpu

Ridge behind ridge, the Himalayan massif rises toward Sandahpu in this Nicholas Roerich landscape. The summit holds pale light while lower slopes sink into deep blue shadow. Thin tempera strokes carry the snowfields, layered violet and cobalt in the hollows, a cold turquoise sky pressing down on the ridge line. Everything is pared back: rock, snow, altitude, silence. The great peaks dominate the composition, painted with the shorthand confidence of a painter who sketched them at close range during his Central Asian expeditions. A quiet presence in a study or reading room, where cold mountain color can breathe.
