Sunlit summits burn at the top of the frame while the lower ridgelines sink into cold violet shadow. Himalayas. Mountains lit by sunset belongs to the Nicholas Roerich cycle of high-range works. Tempera gives the snow a dry, chalked surface, layered in long unblended strokes. The lit faces of the peaks shift from pale apricot to deep rose, and the sky behind them holds a narrow band of salmon light above bruised dusk blue. No figures, no path, no shelter. Only the mountains receiving the last low angle of the day. A study or quiet reading room suits its calm weight well, especially beside darker blues from the same range of Roerich mountain scenes.
