Ladakh unfolds in the picture: ridgelines of the Himalayas stepping back in cool bands of blue until the farthest peaks dissolve into pale sky. Nicholas Roerich set his horizons high and left the middle distance breathing. Cold ultramarine slides into violet as the slopes recede, each ridge edged with a harder line of shadow. Snow sits in flat, unbroken fields across the high plateaus, and the foreground terrain holds a muted earthen tone that grounds all that altitude. Everything is pared down: no figures, no path, just elevation upon elevation rendered in thin, matte layers of tempera-like color. A study wall, a quiet hallway, or the wall above a low cabinet would carry it well, anywhere that rewards a long, unhurried look.
