The first sun clears a Himalayan ridge and the whole range catches fire. In Himalayan Morning. Sunrise, Nicholas Roerich paints the moment when cold indigo shadow loses its hold and peaks ignite in rose and gold. Snowfields below hold the last blue of night while long slopes turn ochre where the light reaches. The ridgelines are drawn hard and clean, the way Roerich painted them after years in the high passes, thin air rendered in bands of unmixed color. A pale sky burns upward from saffron at the horizon into cool violet. A study or reading room facing east suits this sunrise well, its warmth answering the morning light.
