Haystacks

Round haystacks lean into a field at dusk, drawn in the confident hand of Theodor Pallady. Two conical stacks anchor the foreground, their curved silhouettes cut against a low horizon line. Pallady builds the ground from layered ochres and burnt sienna, the paint dragged and scumbled so stubble and shadow trade places across the surface. Violet cools the far edge of the field where trees blur to smoke, and a small white farmhouse holds the middle distance. Sky strokes run horizontal, thin and fast, letting raw canvas breathe through in patches of pale gold. A study or reading room suits this rural calm, especially one with linen textures and warm lamplight where the ochres can glow after dark.
