Harbour on Bornholm

Fishing boats heel against the quay while the breakwater of a Danish island harbour cuts the picture in two. Harbour on Bornholm belongs to the modernist eye of Arthur Segal, who built a Baltic scene out of color planes. Hulls sit in blocky blues and greens, masts cross like ruled pencil lines, and the water breaks into angular strokes of teal and cream rather than soft reflection. The quay reads as flat ochre, the sky stacked in layered bands, everything stitched together by a sure, geometric hand. Hung in a study or a seaside hallway, it brings northern harbor light into the room.
