Gundla

A high Himalayan pass opens across the foreground, the Gundla trail threading between stony slopes toward distant summits. Roerich paints the Lahul valley at its stillest hour, sky and stone held in one cold breath. Slate ridges descend in long diagonals, their crests dusted with unmelted snow, while the valley floor glows in muted violet and ash blue. A thin ribbon of pale light marks water or path, leading the eye upward through cold mountain air toward peaks rendered in Roerich signature layered blues. Small dark pines anchor the slope and give the vast terrain its human scale. Suited to a study or a quiet reading room, where mountain silence can settle over the walls.
