Gulf of Corinth (Parnassus)

Parnassus rises in stepped ridges above the Gulf of Corinth, its summit dissolving into pale haze while the water below holds a deep, even blue. Violet Oakley recorded the view with a muralist eye. Blue never settles into a single note. Teal shallows brighten near the shore, slate ridgelines stack behind one another, and the sky washes white where it meets the peaks. Olive slopes run down to the water in dry gold and green, broken by cypress and a scatter of pale roofs. A calm, horizontal view like this suits a study or hallway, where the long line of the coast can stretch out and give a room air.
