Gryzovo Church

A whitewashed church rises above low rooftops, its dome catching pale northern light. Gryzovo Church comes from Nicholas Roerich, the Russian painter who devoted whole series to old stones and quiet skies. Tempera gives the walls a chalky, powdered surface, blue shadow pooling where the roofline bends. Hills roll behind in cold violet and slate, trees pressed close to the fence. The sky does most of the work, broad and silvered, holding the small sanctuary against it. Suited to a study or reading room, where its hush and cool palette settle easily among books and dark wood.
