Golden Roses

Golden roses by Olga Boznanska gather a bouquet that barely holds together, petals loosening in amber and honeyed yellow against a deep, unresolved brown ground. Boznanska built her still lifes with loose, loaded brushwork, letting pigment sit in ridges so each bloom reads as much as texture as flower. Highlights catch on petal edges, cooler grey-green leaf notes push the golds forward, and the stems disappear into shadow before reaching any vase. The mood is intimate, a little melancholy, typical of her Munich and Paris period sensibility. Suits a dim study or a reading nook with dark wood and lamplight.
