Golden October

Golden October opens with a herd of black and white sheep grazing through tall autumn grass, a shepherd close behind them along the water. Arnold Marc Gorter painted Dutch pastureland the way it actually feels in late season, cold light on low horizons and every blade gone amber. Look at how the fleece catches that pale gold, each animal built from short strokes of white, grey, and shadow. The grass runs ochre to russet, the water carries slate and silver, and the sky stays a thin Dutch grey above it all. Made for a study or a reading nook, anywhere autumn light feels welcome.
