Gladioli and Agapanthus

Gladioli lift their spires of magenta and white above a low gather of agapanthus, the round blue heads balanced like small fireworks, in a garden composition by Beatrice Emma Parsons. Pigment pools in thin washes inside each funnel of petal, cobalt and violet built up in short strokes across the domed umbels, while sword-shaped leaves rise in sap green. The paper stays pale behind the blooms, so the whole arrangement floats in warm summer light. A sunroom, a breakfast nook near the window, or a bright stair landing would give it the daylight those petals ask for.
