Glaciers of Lahaul

Glaciers pour down the slopes of Lahaul, frozen rivers of ice rendered in pale turquoise and bone white. Nicholas Roerich sets these slow-moving masses against a sky of deep, unbroken blue. Look closely and the ice divides into ridged tongues, each crevasse traced with cool shadow. The peaks above carry snow in thick, creamy strokes, while the valley below stays dark and quiet, grounding the composition. Tempera-like surfaces give the cold air a chalky, luminous body. A study, a reading room, or a hallway with strong daylight suits this mountain scene, where its icy palette can carry the whole wall.
