Wildflowers scatter down a sun-washed slope in Giverny Hillside, the French countryside as Guy Rose saw it, every blade and blossom caught in broken strokes of green and gold. Oil pigment sits thick on the surface, short loaded dabs of emerald, violet shadow and cream white building the meadow patch by patch. Tree canopies dissolve into pale sky at the crest, grasses lean with wind, all brushed loose and quick in the impressionist manner.
