Giants Tomb

Huge unhewn slabs shoulder a massive capstone on a wind-scoured ridge, the megalithic burial known as Giants Tomb. Roerich sets the ancient stones against a wall of blue mountains. Matte tempera lays violet shadow under the capstone, cobalt ridgelines fading into pale gold at the horizon. Lichen grays the stone, and low grass creeps toward the narrow dark doorway between the uprights. The stones read almost warm against that cold sky, their rough faces catching the last level light. Hung in a study or library, the megalith holds its silence: a doorway of stone for a room of books and long evenings.
