Foliage crowds the picture plane in Garden in Cannes. Edouard Vuillard compresses a southern French courtyard into layered greens, rose stucco, and warm shadow. Palm fronds and the dark canopy of a pine press against a sunlit wall, terracotta pots catching light along a gravel path. Brushwork stays loose and knitted, violet shadow pooling under the greens, every leaf treated as pattern rather than botany. Foreground and distance fold onto one woven surface.
