Garden gate in Amalfi

A wrought iron archway leans open among lemon branches. Rust and sea salt have furred its scrollwork. Garden gate in Amalfi by Edward Okuń holds that threshold between cool shade and white glare. Ochre plaster climbs the wall in rose and cream, a terracotta pot spilling geraniums across the worn step. Through the opening the sea lies pale as hammered silver, and bougainvillea drops magenta over whitewash in loose, loaded brushstrokes. Shadow pools under the trellis, brushed deep leaf green. It belongs in a sunroom or an entryway where morning light gathers, beside linen, rattan, and a stack of old travel books.
