Future (study)

A figure steps ahead of the picture plane, one leg lifted mid-stride, rendered in Balla's layered strokes. The sheet is titled Future (study), a working sketch from the Italian futurist orbit. Every mark leans forward. Graphite and ink sit over pale ground, lines repeating like shutter frames. The stride multiplies: heel, knee, calf each traced again and again so motion becomes structure. Ochre and gray shading gathers weight at the foot, while the upper body dissolves into repeated contours. It reads as a diagram of forward time. Suited to a hallway or study where movement has room to register at eye level, especially beside plain walls and hard daylight.
