Future

A single figure strides forward, rendered as a chain of overlapping silhouettes that smear across the picture plane. Balla titles the work Future and lets the title do half the talking. The rest happens in paint: one body multiplied into a sequence of steps. Look closely and the figure breaks into ribbons of crimson, ochre and slate blue, each contour repeated a half-beat behind the last. The brushwork runs in short diagonal strokes, the Futurist shorthand for legs in motion. Edges stay wet and unresolved where the forms overlap, so the stride never settles into a fixed outline. Hang it where decisions get made, above a desk or along a hallway that ends in a door. The forward lean suits rooms built for momentum.
