Fuji River

Rafts slide down the Fuji River, boatmen bending to long poles as Shotei Takahashi sets the current moving across the sheet in firm, clean line. The horizon stays still. Indigo bokashi wash fills the sky above distant Mount Fuji, its snow cap left almost bare paper. Sepia water moves the rafts past reed banks and a few thatched roofs, while grey mist softens every far shore. Woodblock grain shows through the palest tones.
