Fruit-piece

Apples and pears crowd a table edge, painted with the thick, sculptural brushwork that made Pyotr Konchalovsky famous among Russian post-impressionists. His fruit-piece treats humble produce like monumental sculpture. Paint sits heavy on the surface, each apple built from loaded strokes of vermilion and green, highlights dabbed on thick enough to catch light. A dark ground pushes every curve forward, giving the pile the density of a Cézanne still life rendered in saturated color.
