From Húsafell, West Iceland

Mossy lava blocks and wind-bent birches slope down to the farm buildings in From Húsafell, West Iceland, a landscape by Asgrimur Jonsson under a high, pale sky. Grey basalt pushes up through moss, the green deepening where shade pools between the rocks. Farm roofs read as small brown marks, nearly swallowed by the slope. A glacier-capped ridge holds the horizon, its snow one pale stroke against a sky of almost the same color. Brushwork stays thin and matte, strokes left open. A north-facing study, a stone-floored entryway, a quiet reading nook: rooms that could use the cold, clear air of the Icelandic interior.
