Fresh Breeze

A sailing boat heels across open water under a sky full of wind. Fresh breeze by Arkady Rylov puts the viewer on the river, spray and all. Pale blue dominates, laid in broad loaded strokes. The sail catches light along its curve while the hull drags a white wake through greenish water. Clouds smear sideways. Everything leans, masts, waterline, horizon, as if the whole scene were caught mid-gust. Rylov painted northern rivers with this same gusty energy, air you can feel moving across the surface. Suited to a stairwell or a hallway where movement draws the eye along the wall.
