Fountain

Water leaps in a single bright column against deep green garden shade, the basin below catching every drop in a scatter of pale highlights. Fujishima Takeji builds the scene around contrast: cold stone grays and slate blues pressed against the warm flesh tones of foliage warmed by filtered light. Brushwork stays loose where leaves blur at the edges, tighter where the carved spout and rippling water demand definition. The eye travels from dark undergrowth up to the illuminated spray, then settles on the mossy rim of the basin.
