Forest River

A forest river bends through the frame, its current pulling light downstream in long silver ribbons. This is Arkady Rylov at his most quietly commanding, the northern waterway rendered with an open, wet brushstroke. Olive and moss greens crowd both banks, laid on thick where the undergrowth thickens near the waterline. The sky above the treeline holds a cool grey-blue that bleeds into the reflection below, so river and air seem cut from the same cloth. Trunks rise as vertical darks, their shadows breaking on the current. A reading nook or study with books in worn cloth bindings suits it well, the greens answering timber shelves and older upholstery.
