A nymph stands half-hidden among tree trunks, one hand parting fern fronds, listening to an old hermit below. Forest Nymph Eavesdrops on the Hermit comes from Alexander Rothaug, a painter drawn to myth staged in German woodland. Rothaug builds the scene on cool grays and mossy greens, the hermit hunched at his rough stone shelter while the nymph stays lit in pale skin tones against shadowed bark. Brushwork is crisp and academic, folds of drapery and foliage rendered with careful, almost etched edges. It suits a study or library, where mythological subjects and dark forest palettes sit naturally among books and lamplight.
