Forest Dwellers

Bear cubs perch on a broken pine, one already halfway down the trunk. Forest dwellers by Arkady Rylov opens mid-scene, as if you walked up on the animals before they noticed you. Rylov paints the woodland in deep spruce greens and cool northern blues, the sky behind the cubs a wash of pale silver light. Brushwork runs thick along the bark, rough and directional, while the cubs themselves are built from quick, warm brown strokes. Undergrowth and fallen timber crowd the lower edge, all shadow and moss. A natural fit for a cabin sitting room, a library with timber shelves, or any reading nook that leans toward the wilder end of the landscape tradition.
