Flowery Meadow

Grass swallows the foreground whole. In Flowery meadow, Arkady Rylov lets blossom and blade of grass take over the picture plane, a summer field painted loose and close to the ground, where flowers crowd the surface before any horizon can arrive. Thick strokes of white, violet and yellow sit against wet green, the flowers built from single loaded touches rather than drawn outlines. Sky shows through gaps in the meadow as pale blue, thin and high, while the lower half churns with color laid on wet into wet, edges of one bloom bleeding into the next. Light reads as noon, direct and unshaded, flattening depth and pushing the whole field toward the surface. A sunlit room rewards it best: a kitchen table corner, a bright hallway, anywhere morning air moves.
